3,126 new COVID-19 cases recorded; active tally rises to 31,037

The Philippines recorded 3,126 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country’s caseload to 3,867,071, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Thursday.

This was the second straight day of more than 3,000 cases.

The DOH’s latest data showed that the active tally rose by 797 cases to 31,037 from Wednesday's total, after five straight days of decreasing active cases.

The National Capital Region (NCR) topped the regions of the highest cases with 12,723 new cases, followed by Calabarzon with 7,053, Central Luzon with 4,275, Western Visayas with 2,247, and Cagayan Valley with 1,798.

The recovery tally also rose by 2,197 cases to 3,774,515. The tally of new recoveries is the lowest in 20 days and comes after five straight days of more new recoveries than new cases.

The death toll rose by 43 cases to 61,519—the third straight day of more than 40 deaths being tallied.

The nationwide bed occupancy rate slightly went down to 29.4%, while the number of beds occupied were 8,511, while at least 20,454 were vacant as of Tuesday, August 23.

The Health department also reported 21,222 individuals were tested, while 327 testing laboratories submitted data on Wednesday, August 24. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
