OCTA: NCR COVID-19 average daily attack rate at ‘low’ 5.98

The COVID-19 average daily attack rate (ADAR) in the National Capital Region (NCR) is now considered “low” at 5.98 per 100,000 population, independent monitoring group OCTA Research said Tuesday.

ADAR refers to the average number of new COVID-19 cases in a period per 100,000 people.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said that an ADAR below 6 is deemed low based on their metrics.

Last August 22, the NCR had an ADAR of 7.32 per 100,000 individuals

Meanwhile, the seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases in NCR also decreased by 19% from 1,062 on August 22 to 862 on August 29, David said.

The region’s reproduction number, meanwhile, went down from 0.99 on August 19 to 0.95 on August 26.

Reproduction rate refers to the number of people infected by one case. A reproduction number that is less than 1 indicates that the transmission of the virus is slowing down.

NCR’s one-week positivity rate—or the percentage of people who were found positive for COVID-19 among the total number of individuals tested—-also declined from 14.6% on August 18 to 12.7% on August 25.

Its healthcare utilization rate for the coronavirus disease also remained low at 33.3%, while its intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy was also low at 25.8%. — DVM, GMA News
