Palace: Marcos’ policy is to cooperate with congressional investigations

By RICHA NORIEGA,GMA News

It is President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s policy to cooperate with congressional inquiries, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said on Tuesday.

In a statement, Cruz-Angeles said, "Cabinet members who are called to testify as resource persons in any probe will continue to extend courtesies in the Senate and the House of Representatives."

Cruz-Angeles made the remarks hours after Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez faced the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee

to answer questions as regards the controversy surrounding the questioned order to import 300,000 tons of sugar.

The order has since been branded as illegal by Malacañang.

"It has always been a policy of the President to cooperate fully with ongoing investigations, be it in the Senate or in the House of Representatives," Cruz-Angeles said.

"In fact, the President welcomes any move by Congress to check allegations of anomalous transactions in government, as this bolsters the administration’s campaign for transparency in governance," she added.

Cruz-Angeles said Rodriguez "attended the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee and has answered all questions to the satisfaction of the members of the committee."

Rodriguez arrived at the Senate Tuesday morning after the Blue Ribbon committee voted to subpoena him to attend the hearing on the sugar importation fiasco.

The controversial issuance of SO 4 has been deemed “illegal” by Malacañang as it was signed without the knowledge and expressed approval of Marcos, who concurrently heads the Department of Agriculture. —NB, GMA News
