The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) seeks to train 1,400 victims of the magnitude 7 earthquake that struck Northern Luzon in July, the agency’s director general said Friday.

TESDA director-general Atty. Danilo Cruz said the agency will work with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under a joint memorandum circular to help the earthquake victims.

"'Yung kanilang programang TUPAD ay sasamahan namin ng skills training. Kung ang iyong tahanan ay nasira ng nagdaang lindol, magpo-provide kami ng training sa mga karpentero, sa mga mason, sa mga electrician," he said during the public briefing.

(We will include skills training in the TUPAD program. If their homes were destroyed by earthquakes, we will provide training for carpenters, masons, and electricians.)

“Bibigyan na namin sila ng tool kits na gagamitin nila at ang DOLE naman, through sa kanilang TUPAD, ay bibigyan sila ng corresponding allowances,” he added.

(We will give them tool kits that they will use why DOLE, through its TUPAD, will give them corresponding allowances.)

Cruz said this will be done in 40 batches, with 25 people in each batch.

Meanwhile, when asked if there are plans to expand this program to other regions, Cruz said TESDA is in constant coordination with DOLE.

He also said  that TESDA is developing a system that seeks to combine the skills registry of TESDA and the skills mapping of DOLE to address the job-skill mismatch in the country

“Kung mapapagsama natin 'yan… madaling makita ng mga tao kung anong klaseng manggagawa ang hinahanap ng ating industriya at ‘yun ay matutugunan ng tamang training program,” he said.

(If we can combine this… it will be a big help on what kind of employees are being sought by the industriy and it will be addressed by the correct training programs.)—AOL, GMA News
