NGCP downgrades Luzon Grid’s red alert to yellow

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has lifted the Red Alert status of the Luzon Grid three hours ahead of schedule, but implemented a Yellow Alert Status.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the Red Alert was lifted as of 5 p.m. on Monday, September 12. This was earlier set to last until 8 p.m.

The red alert status indicates that there is zero ancillary service or that a generation deficiency exists, with the NGCP reporting available capacity of 10,693 megawatts versus the peak demand of 9,933 megawatts.

The NGCP noted, however, that the Luzon Grid remains under Yellow Alert status — indicating that the grid has thin reserves based on supply and demand — from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/RSJ, GMA News
