1,709 new COVID-19 infections logged; active cases drop to 24,139

The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday recorded 1,709 new COVID-19 infections, the second straight day with fewer than 2,000 new cases.

Wednesday's count increases the nationwide tally to 3,911,487, while the total number of active cases decreased to 24,139 from 24,502 on Tuesday.

The National Capital Region (NCR) remains the region with the most coronavirus cases with 9,235, followed by Calabarzon with 3,746, Central Luzon with 2,276, Davao Region with 1,306, and Western Visayas with 1,807.

The country’s recovery tally also climbed to 3,824,932, while the death toll rose to 62,416.

The latest data also shows bed occupancy in the country at 26.9% as of Monday, September 12, with at least 7,694 beds occupied and 20,925 vacant.

A total of 19,978 individuals were tested, while 335 testing labs submitted data as of Tuesday, September 13, according to the DOH. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
