VP Sara tapped as OIC while Marcos attends UN General Assembly —Palace

Vice President Sara Duterte has been named as the country's caretaker anew following President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s trip to New York to attend the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). 

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles confirmed this to GMA News Online on Sunday.

This was the second time Duterte was designated as the country's officer-in-charge. The first time was when Marcos was on state visits in Indonesia and Singapore on September 4 to 7, 2022.

to discuss how to maintain peace and order in the country while Marcos was out of the country.

Marcos flew for the United States at 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 18, and will be back in the Philippines on September 24.

In his departure speech, the chief executive said that he will discuss his administration’s goal for economic recovery, food security, and agricultural productivity during UNGA.

Marcos will deliver the national statement before the UN on September 20, and is also expected to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other key leaders during the trip. —KG, GMA News
