The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reminded the public to follow health protocols in order to avoid spread of COVID-19 infections during Christmas gatherings and celebrations.

At the press briefing, DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said face masks should be worn at all times especially in crowded areas and if there is a risk of close interaction.

(We just want to remind our fellow Filipinos, especially since the Christmas season is coming and there will be parties, group activities, and company outings because of the celebration of Christmas. I hope we will always remember that the virus is still with us and many are still getting infected. Many of us are still vulnerable, especially the elderly.)

Vergeire said hopefully the establishments and companies will implement that those people attending gatherings are vaccinated particularly if they will gather inside the establishments.

“Hopefully, our establishments also and companies will implement na kailangan bakunado yung mga kasama nila especially kung nasa loob sila ng mga establishments, now there are also other restrictions pagdumating tayo sa Alert 2, [or]  pag-Alert Level 3,” Vergeire said.

(Let us put extra precautions and see if the situation is appropriate for us to have these activities and always remember the safety protocols that we have so that we will prevent more people getting infected in the coming Christmas.)

The DOH on Wednesday registered 1,500 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country’s caseload to 3,943,153.

This was the second day straight with fewer than 2,000 new cases. — RSJ, GMA News
