2,536 new COVID-19 infections logged; active cases rise to 28,172

The Philippines on Thursday reported 2,536 new COVID-19 infections, increasing the nationwide tally to 3,945,566.

The new daily tally comes after two days with fewer than 2,000 new cases.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s latest data, the fresh cases brought the country’s active tally to 28,172 from 27,553 active tally reported on Wednesday.

The DOH said the National Capital Region (NCR) remained the region with the most cases in the recent two weeks with 13,962, followed by Calabarzon with 5,307, Central Luzon with 2,794, Davao Region with 1,323, and Western Visayas with 808.

The Health department said the country’s recovery tally climbed to 3,854,478, while the death toll also increased to 62,916.

At least 7,331 beds were occupied, while 21,413 were vacant as the bed occupancy in the country stood at 25.5% as of Tuesday, September 27.

A total of 17,779 individuals were tested, while 336 testing labs submitted data as of Wednesday, September 28. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
