DPWH grilled on relocation of posts in middle of widened roads

By GMA Integrated News

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has questioned the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on the relocation of electric posts caused by road widening projects.

According to a report by Mav Gonzales on "24 Oras," data from the National Electrification Administration showed that 57,000 out of 85,000 posts needing relocation have yet to moved.

Most are in Region 3 or Central Luzon.

During the the hearing on the DPWH's proposed budget, Gatchalian said Congress had been funding the relocation for years.

"Last few years, we have allocated close to about P4 billion pesos... P4 billion pesos is enough to really relocate those posts," Gatchalian said.

"The relocation is not catching up with the schedule," he added.

Gatchalian requested an updated timeline for when the relocation will be completed.

Senator Sonny Angara, the budget sponsor of the project, said the DPWH would submit Gatchalian's request. -Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA News
