MMC, LTO, MMDA eye integrated single ticketing system with provinces

The Metro Manila local government units, Land Transportation Office (LTO), and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) are looking at adopting its proposed single ticketing system to provinces as well, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said Tuesday.

Zamora, who was elected as new president of the Metro Manila Council (MMC) and co-chairperson of the Regional Development Council, said a technical working group has been formed to make up policies for such a proposal.

“Malaking bagay din ito sa mga probinsya. Kasi minsan ang nangyayari, ikaw ay taga-Ilocos o taga-Bicol, dumaan ka ng Metro Manila, nahuli ka rito ng isang traffic violation, alangan naman babalik ka pa ng Metro Manila para lang magbayad,” he said in GMA News’ Unang Balita interview.

(This will also be beneficial in the provinces because sometimes if you are from Ilocos or Bicol, and you were caught for a traffic violation in Metro Manila, would you have to go back to Metro Manila just to pay your fines?)

“Kung kayo ay taga-Ilocos, Bicol, o kung saan man, puwede na kayo magbayad doon. We will have to have an integrated system,” he added.

(If you are from Ilocos, Bicol, or anywhere else, you can pay your penalties there. We will have to have an integrated system.)

Under the single ticketing system, it will be easier for traffic violators in the National Capital Region to settle the penalties through Bayad Centers or through mobile apps.

Concerned agencies have also proposed an increase in the penalties that traffic violators have to pay. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
