The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday said it has issued a show cause order against Grab Philippines to explain the alleged overcharging of customers.

At a televised public briefing, LTFRB executive director Robert Peig said the board issued the show cause order after it received letter complaints about the alleged overcharging.

“So nabigyan po ang My Grab o kaya itong Grab Philippines ng isang show cause order para ipaliwanag itong mga alegasyon po ng overcharging sa ating mananakay,” he said.

Peig said a hearing has been set for December 6.

Sought for comment, Grab Philippines called the allegation “speculative, fictitious, and obsessive,” saying that its ride-hailing service has been following the LTFRB’s fare matrix.

“These claims of overcharging, from the same groups who filed for a congressional hearing against Move It last week, are speculative, fictitious, and obsessive,” Grab Philippines told GMA News Online in a message.

“As a marketplace, the lack of TNVS (transport network vehicle services) supply continues to be a key factor driving fares, and we are urging the LTFRB to reopen the slots and enhance their onboarding process so we can quickly get more drivers on the platform,” it added.  —KBK, GMA Integrated News
