Sara Duterte to high schoolers: Hindi kailangan ng pag-ibig para maging masaya

Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday took the opportunity to give some love advice to hundreds of high school students with whom she attended a romance opera rehearsal.

At a general rehearsal of the Italian production of "Turandot" at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Sara said romantic love wasn't necessary to be happy, enjoining her young audience not to hurt themselves because of it.

“Laging sinasabi ng mga matatanda that there are other fishes in the ocean. ‘Yan ang laging sinasabi nila. Pero ang sasabihin ko sa inyo, hindi niyo kailangan ng pag-ibig para maging masaya sa buhay niyo,” she said.

(Older people always say that there are other fish in the ocean. But I tell you, you don't need love to be happy in your life.)

Sara told the learners that they can be very happy and accomplished soon, even if they did not have love lives.

“Lalong-lalo na, hindi niyo kailangan magpakamatay dahil sa kayo ay hindi nagustuhan nung inyong mga napupusuan,” Sara said.

(Most especially, you don't need to take your life because you were not liked by the person you adore.)

As Giacomo Puccini's Turandot is a story of romance, Sara said many learners would relate to it as many of them were just also starting with their own love stories. —NB, GMA Integrated News
