Comelec suspends voter registration for holidays

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday announced the suspension of voter registration for the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) and other future polls in time for the Christmas season.

In an advisory, the poll body said all offices of the election officers and satellite registration sites will temporarily stop their operations from December 24 and December 31 pursuant to Resolution No. 10868 which sets the rules and regulations for the BSKE voter registration.

“Likewise, voter registration will be suspended on December 24 and 26, 2022 and January 2, 2023, pursuant to the Memoranda dated 12 and 22 December 2022 of the Office of the Executive Director and the Election and Barangay Affairs Department, respectively,” it added.

December 25 and January 1, which both fall on a Sunday, are observed as regular holidays while December 26 was declared a special non-working holiday by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Comelec said the normal schedule for registration will resume on January 3, 2023.—Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA Integrated News
