Nearly 600K people affected due to shear line floods, rains — NDRRMC


Almost 600,000 individuals all over the country have been affected by the rains and floods brought by the shear line, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday.

Based on its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said there were 597,858 people or 150,480 families affected in 1,018 barangays in Mimaropa, the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Region.

Most of them were from Caraga with 234,108 individuals or 59,739 families affected.

There were also 8,666 displaced people or 2,811 families remaining in 78 evacuation centers, while 41,245 displaced people or 10,977 families were staying outside of evacuation centers.

At least 1,428 people or 457 families were also preemptively evacuated in Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Caraga.

The reported death toll due to the shear line rains and floods also remained at 51, according to NDRRMC.

Thirteen of these deaths were already confirmed, while 38 were still up for validation.

There were also 19 people still reportedly missing, while 16 were injured.

Damage

The NDRRMC said the cost of damage to agriculture now stood at P243,029,507.42. The National Irrigation Administration also recorded a P2,050,000 worth of damage. 

Meanwhile, the cost of damage to 99 infrastructures has reached P1,137,605,000.

There were also 4,540 houses damaged due to the effects of the shear line, which cost roughly P54,890,000.

Of these houses, 3,704 were partially damaged and 836 were totally damaged.

The NDRRMC said P48,489,402.87 worth of assistance was already provided in various regions. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
