48 MOUs signed with LGUs for national housing program

Almost 50 local government units have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOU) with the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) for the government’s national housing program, an official said Thursday.

DHSUD Undersecretary Avelino Tolentino III said 48 LGUs have signed MOUs with the agency so far for the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program, which seeks to establish 6 million houses.

“Natutuwa po tayo dahil nung 2022 po, tayo po ay nakapag 12 groundbreaking events at tayo po ay nagkaroon po ng 48 MOU signings with various local government units,” Tolentino said during the public briefing.

(We are happy because in 2022, we were able to have 12 groundbreaking events and 48 MOU signings with various local government units.)

Tolentino said Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong is also set to sign an MOU with the DHSUD in the afternoon.

“[A]ng Baguio City ay mag allocate po ng 6.3 hectares na lupa to target at least 2,000 beneficiaries at sila po ay tumitingin para magtayo ng 20-story building… sa Tuba, Benguet,” he said.

(Baguio City will allocate 6.3 hectares of land to target at least 2,000 beneficiaries and they are also looking to build a 20-story building in Tuba, Benguet.)

Meanwhile, he said the DHSUD is seeking to begin the full construction of areas that have undergone groundbreaking ceremonies already.

“Ang atin pong priority ay ‘yun pong ating mga na groundbreaking po ay tuloy-tuloy po sa full-blown construction at hindi po tayo nag papahinga dito po sa aming tanggapan kami ho ay patuloy pong nag pa-package ng susunod na round po ng project,” Tolentino said.

Further, he expressed hope that more LGUs will sign MOUs with the agency.

“Naniniwala rin po kami na with the construction in full swing at nakikita po ng ating partner LGUs na tumutbo na po itong ating mga construction sa mga nauna nating mga LGUs ay susunod na po ang ating mga iba pang LGUs sa pag suporta dito sa ating Pambansang Pabahay,” he said.
