SC suspends work on January 9 for Black Nazarene feast

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo on Friday announced the suspension of work at the Supreme Court (SC) in Manila on Monday, January 9, due to the Feast of Black Nazarene. 

Based on Memorandum Order No. 02-2023, signed by Gesmundo, work in the High Court will be suspended in view of the expected heavy traffic due to several road closures in Manila.

"In view of the expected heavy traffic in the vicinity because of the several road closures in the City of Manila brought about by the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, work in the Supreme Court, Manila, is suspended on 9 January 2023, Monday, except essential staff of offices who may be required to report for work in Manila to assist those who are in Baguio for the sessions," the order read.

will be closed to traffic on January 6 and 8 in light of the Nazarene 2023 activities, according to the Manila Police District.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has declared January 9 a special non-working day in Manila City for the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Around five million devotees are expected to participate in the Walk of Faith procession from the Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church on January 8.

Unlike in the Traslacion, the image of the Black Nazarene would not be exhibited during the Walk of Faith. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
