Police Brigadier General Romeo Caramat Jr. has been assigned as the new director of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said Monday.

“Director CIDG, Brigadier General Ronald Lee will be going up to Directorate for Intelligence as the deputy. So magpapalit po sila ni (He will exchange places with) Brigadier General Romeo Caramat,” he said in a briefing.

Meanwhile, Azurin said that they also saw a resolution signed by generals supporting Lee.

“The reason bakit merong ganoon is because, first is, ito kasing movement na ito matagal na kasi dapat. Unfortunately nga, itong si General Caramat may mga inaasikaso pa siya na mga ibang mga personal na problema,” he said.

(The reason why there was something like that is that this movement was supposed to have happened a long time ago. Unfortunately, General Caramat had to resolve some personal problems.)

Azurin said they mulled recommending Lee to remain as CIDG director until Caramat is ready.

“On the day that the order will be issued kay General Caramat, an unfortunate incident happened to the wife of General Caramat. Nevertheless, we asked him if he is ready to take the position. Sabi naman niya, 'Despite ‘yung nangyari nga sa misis ko, I am ready,'” Azurin said.

(He said, "Despite what happened to my spouse, I am ready.")

“So we pursued with the turnover, which will happen today,” he added. —KG, GMA Integrated News
