BFP inspects establishments, fire hydrants as Fire Prevention Month kicks off

By GMA Integrated News

On the first day of Fire Prevention Month, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel inspected several residential areas and establishments, and checked fire hydrants to ensure they are working in case of fire.

According to Oscar Oida's report on "24 Oras," over 30 fire incidents have been recorded daily since January 1, 2023, which the BFP said was 22% less than the incidents in the same period last year.

But the BFP said it is not letting its guard down as a number of fire incidents occur in March.

In Mandaluyong, an inspection was conducted to ensure the residents followed the fire code.

Authorities tested a fire hydrant in Barangay Mauhay and found water was barely coming out prompting them to report it to the water service provider.

"Sa ganitong area po kasi mahirap pasukin ng truck kaya nag iinstall tayo ng mga wet standpipe kung saan may supply ng tubig diyan," said Fire Superintendent Nazrudin Cablayan, Mandaluyong City fire marshal.

Residents were also taught how to use standpipes in case of fire.—Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
