BI deports Japanese wanted for ATM fraud

The Bureau of Immigration on Friday deported a Japanese national wanted for financial fraud in Tokyo, Japan.

In a statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said 26-year-old Risa Yamada was deported aboard a Japan Airlines flight to Narita.

The BI’s fugitive search unit arrested Yamada on January 9 in Pasay City after being tagged as a fugitive from justice.

According to the BI, the arrest warrant was issued by the Tokyo Summary Court in September 2022 for the crime of theft.

The BI said Yamada conspired with others in stealing data from the ATM cards of victims by posing as bank employees and policemen.

Yamada is now included in the BI’s blacklist, banning her from re-entering the Philippines. —Joahna Lei Casilao/KBK, GMA Integrated News
