PDP-Laban to issue reso supporting moves to amend 1987 Constitution —Matibag

Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has decided to support moves to amend the 1987 Constitution, party secretary-general Melvin Matibag said Tuesday. 

The party has reached the decision in a meeting among its national officers.

"We reached sa consensus that PDP will come out [with a] resolution supporting charter change," Matibag said in a text message sent to reporters.

The announcement on whether they will support amending the constitution through constitutional convention or constitutional assembly will come after former President Rodrigo Duterte, chairman of the PDP-Laban faction, signs the resolution, Matibag added.

In the House of Representatives, there are 32 PDP-Laban members who voted for a Resolution of Both Houses seeking to push for Charter change (Cha-cha) via constitutional convention (con-con).

Meanwhile in the Senate, Senator Robin Padilla, vice president of the Duterte-led PDP-Laban faction, is pushing for constitutional assembly (con-ass) to amend the Constitution. —KG, GMA Integrated News
