LTO on heightened alert from March 31 to April 11

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will be on heightened alert for 11 days starting Friday to ensure safety of travelers amid the Holy Week and the summer vacation.

In an advisory released Monday, the LTO said it will be on heightened alert starting March 31 until April 10, 2023, as part of “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2023.”

While on heightened alert, the LTO will focus on overall road safety such as the roadworthiness inspection of public utility vehicles (PUVs) and the conduct of inspections on land transport terminals.

It is also set to monitor all strategic locations and terminals across the country, with a seminar scheduled on Tuesday, March 28, for drivers and conductors of PUVs.

“Wala kaming hangad sa LTO kundi ang masigurong mairaos nang maayos at ligtas ang Holy Week at bakasyon ng ating mga kababayan,” LTO Chef Jay Art Tugade said.

“Hinihingi rin naman ang pakikiisa ng publiko sa pag-iingat at pagsunod sa mga batas-trapiko para sa biyaheng ayos ngayong taon,” he added.

(The LTO wishes for nothing more than to ensure safe trips during the Holy Week and summer vacation to our countrymen. We also ask for public cooperation on safety and compliance with traffic laws to ensure safe trips this year.)

Under its mandate, the LTO is in charge of the inspection and registration of motor vehicles, the issuance of licenses and permits, the enforcement of land transportation rules and regulations, the adjudication of traffic cases, and the collection of revenues for the government.

This year’s Holy Week is set to have a five-day weekend, with April 6 (Maundy Thursday) and April 7 (Good Friday) regular holidays, and April 10 (Monday) a non-working holiday. —Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/KBK, GMA Integrated News
