Airport operations for Holy Week 'smooth sailing' so far — BI

Operations in Philippine airports are going well so far this Holy Week amid the influx of passengers, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Thursday.

"Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said that airport operations are so far smooth sailing," the agency said in a press release.

Tansingco said more than 40,000 departures and almost 35,000 arrivals were recorded on Wednesday.

The BI chief conducted an inspection of the immigration operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals 1, 2, and 3 and reminded terminal heads to “closely monitor queues to ensure efficient processing of passengers.”

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said last weekend that it was expecting 1.2 million passengers to flock the country’s main gateway from April 1 until April 10.

This Holy Week, the agency said 155 immigration officers and an additional 36 new ones, who recently finished their training at the Philippine Immigration Academy, were deployed.

Tansingco also vowed to improve the services of its frontline personnel.

“We have recently conducted a training for supervisors to strengthen their capacities in handling concerns and issues encountered during their tour of duty,” he said. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
