PNP: Mayo detained at Metro Manila District Jail since December 2022

Dismissed Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo Jr., arrested over the P6.7-billion drug haul, has been transferred to the Metro Manila District Jail as early as December 9, 2022, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.

According to PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo, the custody of Mayo was transferred from the PNP to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in accordance with a court order.

"He was temporarily detained at the PNP Custodial Center, Camp Crame, Quezon City before he was transferred at the Metro Manila District Jail, Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City last December 9,2022 pursuant to a Court Order,” Fajardo told GMA News Online.

On March 21, 2023, Mayo was dismissed from service over three counts of grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.

In October 2022, Mayo was arrested as authorities confiscated some 990 kilograms of suspected shabu with an estimated value of over P6.7 billion following a series of anti-drug operations in Manila.

Mayo served as intelligence officer for the PNP Drug Enforcement Group, based on police records.

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos recently called on 10 cops to take a leave of absence over their possible link to the alleged cover-up of Mayo’s arrest.

PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said there was no attempt to delay the investigation into Mayo’s supposed involvement in the illegal drug operations as he called for due process for the cops in question. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
