Marcos: May King Charles’ coronation bring peace, prosperity, progress in UK, Commonwealth

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Monday wished that the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III would mean peace and prosperity for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

Marcos was among the heads of states present during the coronation of King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla at the Westminster Abbey in London on May 6.

"It was as grand and magnificent a ceremony as could have been, full of symbolism and weighted by history. It was a great honor for me to represent the Philippines on such a historic occasion," Marcos said in a statement.

"Filipinos wish His Majesty King Charles III a long and happy reign. May his Coronation signify the start of a new chapter of peace, progress, and prosperity for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth," he added.

He shared that he was able to speak to King Charles III before the latter's coronation where he expressed the praises of all Filipinos.

Marcos also said they talked about his mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

"He asked after his friend, my mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, and recounted fond memories of the time they shared together," the President said.

Marcos and the First Lady returned to Manila on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. 

According to Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil, no arrival honors were given to the President as he was just welcomed by the Chief of Presidential Protocol Adelio Cruz and Air Force officials.

Amid the coronation, Marcos highlighted the “thriving relationship” between the Philippines and the UK.

“We underscore the thriving relationship between the Philippines and the United Kingdom, which has been promising in increasing trade, investment, and cultural exchanges for the Filipino people,” he earlier said. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
