DOH posts 1,476 COVID-19 cases; active infections increase to 12,706


The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday registered 1,476 new COVID-19 cases for the seventh straight day of more than 1,000 new infections being confirmed.

The new cases brought the nationwide caseload to 4,106,974, while active infections rose to 12,706 from 12,125 on Tuesday. According to GMA Integrated News Research, this is the highest tally of active cases in 126 reporting days, or since January 1’s 13,061 active cases.

The National Capital Region remained the region with the most new cases in the last 14 days, with 7,065 infections. It was followed by Calabarzon with 3,717, Central Luzon with 1,110, Western Visayas with 856, and Bicol Region with 588.

Among cities and provinces, Quezon City had the most new cases in the last 14 days with 1,549, followed by Cavite province with 1,241; Rizal province with 1,149; the City of Manila with 830 ; and Laguna province with 793.

According to the DOH, at least 895 new recoveries were recorded bringing the recovery tally to 4,027,815 while the death toll stood at 66,453 with no new fatalities reported.

It said a total of 4,867 beds were occupied and 19,903 vacant, while the bed occupancy went up to 19.6% as of Monday.

Meanwhile, at least 8,987 individuals were tested, while 322 testing laboratories submitted data. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA Integrated News
