Philippines logs 1,723 new COVID-19 cases; active tally highest in over 4 months

The Department of Health on Monday registered 1,723 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest daily tally in five days, but active cases rose to 15,895, the most in more than four months.

According to GMA Integrated News Research, the new daily figure comes after three straight days of more than 2,000 new cases. It also makes Monday the 12th straight day that more than 1,000 new cases were confirmed.

The Philippines' total COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic is now at 4,116,925.

Active cases rose slightly to 15,895, just four more than Sunday's total. It is the highest tally in four months and 17 days, since December 25’s 15,937 active cases.

Total recoveries increased by 1,719 to 4,034,577, while the death toll has remained at 66,453 since May 7.

The region with the most new COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days is the National Capital Region with 9,361, followed by Calabarzon with 5,065; Central Luzon with 1,651; Western Visayas with 1,161; and the Bicol Region with 795.

Among cities and provinces, Quezon City had the most new cases in the last 14 days with 2,217, followed by Rizal province with 1,612; Cavite province with 1,597; City of Manila with 1,057; and Laguna province with 1,043.

COVID-19 bed occupancy is at 20.2% with 5,039 occupied and 19,925 vacant. Among the occupied beds, 2,512 are in the ICU. — BM, GMA Integrated News
