OCTA: PNP enjoys trust of 8 of 10 Filipinos

The majority of Filipinos continue to trust and have expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Philippine National Police (PNP), according to the 2023 first-quarter survey taken by the independent group OCTA Research.

Based on OCTA’s independent and non-commissioned poll “Tugon ng Masa” survey conducted from March 24 to 28, at least eight out of 10 Filipinos, or 80% nationwide have continued to trust the PNP, while only 5% lacked trust in the organization and 15% said they are “ambivalent over the trustworthiness of the police force.”

The survey said respondents in Visayas and Mindanao were “more trustworthy” of the PNP with 89%, while only 67% in the National Capital Region (NCR).

It said the age group of 25 to 44 has the highest trust rating in the police force with 86%,  followed by the seniors aged 75 and above with 56%, aged 55 to 64 with 10%, and aged 18 to 24 with 9%.

Meanwhile, Filipinos living in rural areas were more trusting of the police force with 85%, compared to those living in urban areas with 72%.

Satisfied, improvement in peace and order

Nearly eight out of 10 Filipinos or 79% were satisfied, while only 6% were dissatisfied and 15% were not sure of the police force’s performance, according to the OCTA.

Nine out of 10 in Visayas and Mindanao respondents or 87% are satisfied with the PNP’s performance, while 65% are in NCR, it said.

Meanwhile, 41% saw an improvement in terms of the implementation of peace and order by the PNP, while 9% said it has worsened.

However, 48% said that the PNP’s performance in terms of peace and order had not changed, it added.

The OCTA added that 41% said PNP’s response to criminality has improved, while 8% said it has worsened and 46% said it has not changed.

The survey was conducted from March 24 to 28 and used face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults nationwide. Its survey has a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level. —NB, GMA Integrated News
