Marcos on Sara quitting Lakas: She has too much work to do

By ANNA FELICIA BAJO,GMA Integrated News

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he understood Vice President Sara Duterte's decision to resign from the Lakas-CMD.

Marcos made the remark hours after Sara released a statement announcing her resignation from the party which she served as chairperson.

Asked for comment on Sara's resignation from the party, Marcos said, "Very simple. Exactly as she says."

"Inday Sara is very plainspoken... kung ano 'yung sinabi, 'yun ang ibig sabihin niya. She has too much work to do, she cannot be involved in all of this," Marcos said.

"She cannot allow herself to be distracted. That's the way I read it," he added.

Marcos indicated that Sara had too much on her plate as education secretary and just recently as co-vice chair of the National Task Force to End the Local Communist Armed Conflict.

"I can understand why sasabihin niya ayusin niyo muna 'yan. Gagawin ko muna 'yung mga kailangan kong tapusin," Marcos said.

Sara announced her resignation two days after her party mate Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was replaced by the House of Representatives as senior deputy speaker.

Arroyo on Thursday referred to reports that she was involved in a plot to oust Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, the president of Lakas-CMD.

The former President and former Speaker said she had no plans to become Speaker anew.

On Friday morning, Sara announced that she was resigning irrevocably from the party with which she ran for vice president in 2022. —NB, GMA Integrated News
