Marcos to DICT: Capacitate LGUs to adapt to e-Gov system

By GMA Integrated News

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has tasked the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to enable local government units so that they can adapt to the "e-Gov system" as part of the administration's digitalization measures.

Marcos met with DICT chief Ivan John Uy and other officials on Tuesday to discuss the agency's pending projects and cybersecurity concerns.

"Let's capacitate our LGUs so they can adapt to the system," Marcos said in a statement issued Wednesday.

Uy, for his part, told the President that with the e-Gov system, the local government units can actually save a lot of money and boost income generation.

“So medyo gagaan ‘yung ano natin downloading. Makakatipid ho sila dito. And their income generation capacity will increase tremendously because there will be efficiencies in the collection,” Uy said.

Meanwhile, Marcos also ordered DICT to conduct regular upgrades in the system: “So again it all boils down to that. That’s really the essence of digitalization. Let’s be sure that we are able to upgrade this system. Set it up to get them (LGUs) ready, so they know how to operate it."

Uy has said the government will turn to e-governance to simplify government service transactions. This includes the used of the e-Gov Super App, a platform that aims to to ensure the digitalization of government systems in the country.

The e-Gov Super App is set to be launched early next month, the Presidential Communications Office said. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
