DOH logs 676 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 12,431


The Philippines recorded 676 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, bringing the nationwide caseload to 4,050,181, said the Department of Health (DOH).

According to GMA News Research, this is the lowest number of cases recorded in the past 37 days and the fifth straight day of decreasing new cases.

Among the regions, the National Capital Region (NCR) has the highest number of new cases in the past two weeks with 5,629, followed by Calabarzon with 3,926, Central Luzon with 2,279, Western Visayas with 1,492, and Cagayan Valley with 953.

Among the cities and provinces, Quezon City had the most new cases in the last 14 days with 1,5408, Cavite with 1,323, Bulacan with 896, Iloilo with 872, and Rizal with 871.

The country's total deaths, meanwhile, increased by 66,481, with five new deaths. This came after three straight days of no new deaths.

The country's active cases slightly went down to 12,431 from 13,243 on Monday.

The recovery tally also increased to 4,071,269. 

A total of 7,200 individuals were tested, while 320 testing labs submitted data as of June 5. 

DOH added that the COVID-19 bed occupancy is 21.1%, with 5,316 occupied and 19,904 vacant. —Sherylin Untalan/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
