Floods hit 7 villages in South Cotabato

At least 526 households in seven villages in South Cotabato province were affected due to flooding caused by the overflowing of rivers in the area over the weekend.

 

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Monday said the flooding occurred Sunday in Norala town in South Cotabato.

 

It said the flooding affected the villages of Esperanza, Poblacion, Lapuz, Liberty, San Jose, Simsiman and Matapol.

 

"There has been a report regarding the overflowing of rivers, which affected seven barangays of the municipality or 526 households," it said.

 

However, it said there was no evacuation, and the floodwaters subsided quickly.

 

Still, it said there were reports of damage to agriculture and to a bridge and other properties.

 

State weather forecasters warned of possible flash floods and landslides in parts of Mindanao due to rain from a low-pressure area.

 

On Monday, PAGASA forecaster Connie Dadivas said the LPA may make landfall over Mindanao and intensify into a cyclone.

 

If the LPA becomes a cyclone, it will be locally codenamed Bising. —KG, GMA News
