(Updated 6:20 p.m.) A convoy carrying police escorts of senatorial candidate and Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile was fired upon in Compostela Valley, local authorities said Tuesday. Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan, Compostela Valley provincial police director, said the shooting incident took place in Barangay Sawangan in Mawab town at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. In a phone interview, Richard Vargas, a member of Enrile's media bureau, said the convoy was en route to Tagum in Davao del Norte from Compostela Valley when shots were fired at the vehicles. Both Cascolan and Vargas said no one was hurt in the incident. Cascolan said a bullet hit the door of a patrol car in the convoy. "Isang tama lang. Tinamaan yung hinge ng pinto nung patrol car. Nahati yung bala. Under investigation pa kung ano klase baril ginamit," Cascolan said. In a statement, Enrile said he "deplored" the incident. He said he was two vehicles away from the vehicle that was hit. "I will not speculate on who fired the shots, who the intended target was, or the motive behind the incident. I am just extremely grateful that none of us was hurt," the senatorial candidate said. — BM, GMA News
