Motorcycle-riding robber shot, killed by Laguna police

A suspected motorcycle-riding criminal was gunned down in a predawn encounter with police in Laguna province, the Philippine National Police said. The PNP, citing a report by Laguna police chief Senior Superintendent Pascual Muñoz Jr., said the encounter occurred at 1:40 a.m. in Barangay San Jose, Sta. Cruz town. Initial investigation said a police team were responding to information that two men, each on a motorcycle, were in the Barangay Oogong area, also in Sta. Cruz. But when the police team approached the motorcycle-riding men, the suspects allegedly tried to flee, triggering a chase towards San Jose. When the suspects reached Barangay Palasan road, they reportedly fired on the police team, whose members fired back.
