1 killed, 5 hurt in Nueva Ecija road blast

A tricycle driver died and five others were hurt in an explosion in Guimba, Nueva Ecija on Monday afternoon.

Police identified the victim as Marvin Barrientos, a resident of Barangay Pacac.

Among the injured victims were Joe Lorence Mina, a teacher and two Grade 11 students.

The explosion hit Barrientos' tricycle as they were travelling along the Guimba-Cuyapo Road in Barangay Casungsong at around 5:40 p.m.

Police said that according to witnesses, two men were seen in the area before the explosion happened.

Investigators have yet to determine the type of explosive that hit the tricycle.

They are also looking at the possibility of the New People's Army's involvement in the incident. —report from Jun-Jun Sy/ALG, GMA News
