Two solar panels used for monitoring Mayon Volcano stolen

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said two of its solar panels in Guinobatan, Albay used in monitoring the activity of Mayon Volcano were stolen.

PHIVOLCS discovered the theft on May 21 after the agency failed to receive transmission data from the volcano.

Authorities have yet to locate the suspects.

PHIVOLCS said the solar panels power up the scanner used in measuring sulfur dioxide levels to check if magma is going up the volcano.
