Boracay roads flooded amid ongoing rehabilitation

Boracay may have already been reopened to the public two weeks ago. But some of its roads still remain flooded as rehabilitation of the popular tourist destination continues.

A report on GMA News TV's News To Go on Tuesday showed a video of a road on the island that is still submerged in muddy floodwater.

The report said the problem has been persisting for a long time.

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), projects to connect canals and roads are still ongoing as part of Boracay's rehabilitation, which may last for about two more years.

"'Yung kanilang sistema, 'yung sewerage, 'yung kanilang drainage, everything ano, hindi pa naka-tap dito sa TIEZA (Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority). And everything is work in progress. Rest assured na 'yan ay ma-a-address natin," DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said.
