Motorcycle-riding gunmen killed Tubod-Surigao del Norte town councilor Felisberto Dumadag as the later pulled over and took a break at a waiting shed, GMA 7 news program "24 Oras Weekend" reported on Saturday.
The gunmen had been tailing Dumadag, bidding their time until they had the opportunity to approach the victim and shoot him at least a dozen times.
Police investigators believed that the shooting was drug-related as Dumadag was on a Philippine National Police-Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency high-value target list.
In 2017, PDEA agents had even arrested Dumadag for drug possession. But the councilor had posted bail and was released.
Dumadag's spouse, Weneliza, however denied that her husband had been involved in drugs.
"Kasi yung sa drugs? Planted did 'yun. Ongoing pa rin yung kaso na 'yun, hanggang ngayon," argued Weneliza.
Meanwhile, investigators had found the gunmen's motorcycle abandoned in an empty field, even as a special police task group was formed to look into the killing. — DVM, GMA News
