14 individuals to face charges over procession in Cebu City barangay amid ECQ

Fourteen individuals, including the barangay chairman, will face complaints due to the conduct of procession in Barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City last Saturday despite the strict ban on mass gatherings.

According to a Dobol B sa News TV report by Ian Cruz on Monday, Central Visayas police chief Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro said organizers of the event and those who danced in the procession would also face criminal complaints.

Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella has said the city's legal office already ordered Basak San Nicolas officials to explain the holding of the celebration despite the prohibition on mass gatherings.

According to the mayor, a show cause order has already been issued to Barangay Captain Norman Navarro and Sangguniang Pambarangay members.

Reports said Navarro has since denied knowledge of the festivities to celebrate the Feast Day of St. John the Baptist and Sto. Niño. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
