Baguio completes contact tracing for all 49 new cases

It took the Baguio local government only 24 hours to complete contact tracing efforts for all 49 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the city, according to JP Soriano’s report on “24 Oras.”

Using their geographic information system, authorities were able to locate all those came in contact with the COVID-19 patients, the houses of the positive cases, and the places they visited.

“One way or the other, merong nagka-hawaan diyan. Like for example ‘yung vegetable dealer na dumating, nahawa ‘yung pahinante, ‘yung pahinante nahawa niya ‘yung kamag-anak niya. Ganoon ‘yan, talagang local transmission,” Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong said.

“Ang importante is natra-track natin ‘yan ‘tas na-isolate natin agad. Kaya’t kailangan talaga mabilisan. Speed is the key,” he added.

Lockdown in more than 10 barangays where contact tracing efforts are over has already been lifted, while 13 other barangays remain under lockdown.

Those with direct contact with the COVID-19 patients underwent an RT-PCR swab test.

The local government said stricter protocols are already being implemented though returning to a general community quarantine is no longer needed.

“Isa ‘yan sa chellenge ngayon. How to really be more stringent and be- pagigtingin pa namin ‘yung border control,” Magalong said. -Joahna Lei Casilao/MDM, GMA News
