Baguio tourism reopening will go on despite spike in COVID-19 cases

The opening of Baguio City's tourism will proceed as scheduled on October 1, despite a sudden spike in the number of new COVID-19 cases for two consecutive days.

Quoting a city official, GMA News’ Jonathan Andal on "Unang Balita" said the tourism opening on Thursday will proceed as scheduled, as the spike in the number of cases was the result of heightened efforts at contact tracing and mass testing.

For two days in a row –September 28 and 29 –the city recorded 136 new cases (68 for each day).

In its latest tally, the city has a total of 915 cases, with 425 active, 478 recoveries and 12 deaths.

But in the mean time, the city will be open only to tourists from Region 1, the report said.

Tourists from the region should book in advance at accredited hotels and travel agencies, and they should present a negative COVID-19 test result issued 24 to 48 hours before their travel. —LBG, GMA News
