Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba on Tuesday endorsed the call of Tuguegarao City officials to have the provincial capital placed under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) for 10 days to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The imposition of an ECQ would entail sweeping restrictions on travel and mass gatherings as well as closure of most businesses.
“I feel that iyong 10 days is quite short. But I am still praying po na in 10 days na ECQ nila ay they will have control sa COVID,” Mamba said at the Laging Handa briefing.
Cash and food assistance will be extended to affected households, he said.
Mamba said the city accounted for over 60% (236) of 373 COVID-19 cases in the province, adding they noticed a surge in infections following the holidays.
“Noon pa namin sinasabi na tataas at tataas ito at ito na nga,” he said. -MDM, GMA News
