Bree Jonson laid to rest in Davao City

Artist Bree Jonson was laid to rest in Davao City on Wednesday, Cyril Chaves of GMA Regional TV Cagayan de Oro reported on Unang Balita on Thursday.

A Mass was held at the Ascension of the Lord Parish in Matina at 2 p.m., after which Jonson's remains were brought to the Davao Memorial Park.

Jonson's kin, including her mother Sally, became emotional during the burial.

Jonson was found dead in a resort in La Union where she was staying with Julian Ongpin, son of former Trade secretary Roberto Ongpin, on September 22.

The police said grams of cocaine were found in the room rented by the two. Ongpin was apprehended but was released pending the results of the investigation.

The police and the National Bureau of Investigation are investigating the matter.

Interviewed at the burial, Sally Jonson could not help but express frustration at the pace of the police investigation.

"I'm sorry, I respect the position but you have no respect for a life," she said of the police officials whom she said are protecting Julian Ongpin.

President Rodrigo Duterte, who is from Davao City, has ordered authorities to serve justice to Bree Jonson's family. --KBK, GMA News
