Kennon Road in Baguio City opens every Friday to Sunday starting Nov. 26

The Kennon Road in Baguio City will be opened to traffic every Friday to Sunday starting November 26.

According to the Office of the Civil Defense-Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR) and the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (CRDRRMC), Baguio-bound motorists or those going up can use Kennon Road from 5:00 a.m. Friday to 5:00 a.m. Sunday while Manila-bound motorist or those going down are allowed 5:00 a.m. to 12 midnight Sunday.

This is to lessen the traffic congestion at the Marcos Highway's quarantine checkpoint, as requested by Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong.

Joint Inter-Agency Task Force Kennon (JIATF Kennon) reminded motorists to observe the proper speed limit of 30 kph, driving safety precautions, parking, and traffic rules including the 5-ton (gross tonnage) limit.

It added that in case of inclement weather or ground-shaking in the area, the road shall be closed immediately.

The police, on the other hand, reminded tourists to register at the ‘Visita Baguio’ website to secure their QC-coded tourist pass.

However, the Baguio Tourism Office stated that reservations at hotels are almost filled up since Monday. The office is processing more than 20,000 traveler requests every day. They also requested the hotels to set up their own triaging area for their customers.

Baguio City is open to fully vaccinated tourists and is under Alert Level 3 until November 30, 2021. Fully vaccinated tourists are not required to take an RT-PCR test, but vaccination cards must be presented. Minors, however, will need to get tested negative for COVID-19.

According to the city mayor, there are only three main travel pass requirements in Baguio. These are:

  •     Baguio Visita registration with QR-coded Tourist Pass (https://visita.baguio.gov.ph)
  •     Vaccination card/certificate
  •     Health screening and verification at the triage in Baguio upon arrival.
