Video shows extent of damage in Dinagat Islands due to Odette

A video shared by the Philippine Navy on Sunday showed the extent of damage suffered by the seaside muncipality of San Jose in Dinagat Islands due to Typhoon Odette.

The typhoon slammed into Dinagat Islands for its second landfall on Thursday, about two hours after it made first landfall over Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.

Both Dinagat Islands and Siargao were under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 then.

Houses along the mountainside were heavily damaged and some of them collapsed, as seen in the video taken by the crew of BRP Rafael Pargas, GMA News' Raffy Tima said on Twitter.

Trees were also stripped off their leaves.

Jeffrey Crisostomo, public information chief in Dinagat Islands, on Sunday said houses in the province suffered 90% to 95% damage due to Odette.

Crisostomo said Odette's heavy rains and strong winds ravaged their communities like a washing machine.

Dinagat Islands Governor Arlene 'Kaka' Bag-ao on Friday said Odette has leveled the province to the ground, reminiscent if not worse than Super Typhoon Yolanda which caused widespread devastation in 2013. —KG, GMA News
