Several Siargao residents hide in sewer during Odette lashing

Several residents in Del Carmen in Siargao found refuge inside a concrete sewer as Typhoon Odette slammed into the province.

According to a report by JP Soriano on "24 Oras" on Thursday, more than 30 residents went inside a drainage in the barangay to save themselves from the wrath of Odette.

The residents said they hid there for more than five hours.

"Eh dikit-dikit po kami, walang space, kailangan nakabaluktot paa mo. Doon na kami iihi, basta wala nang labasan," Alma Espuerta said.

If they had not hidden under the sewage, she said they would be dead already.

"Siguro patay na kami lahat," Espuerta said.

At least 19 people in Siargao were killed in Odette's devastation while 1,000 domestic tourists were affected in the calamity.
