Provinces near NCR feeling COVID-19 spike

Several provinces near the National Capital Region (NCR) have recorded a sharp increase in COVID-19 infections in the past week.

According to Dano Tingcungco’s “24 Oras” report on Wednesday, the provinces of Cavite and Rizal recorded more than 10,000 active COVID-19 cases.

Cavite recorded 13,263 active cases since January 11. The province also recorded an increase of 486% new cases in a week.

The province of Rizal logged 10,859 active cases as of January 11. It recorded a 742.85% increase in COVID-19 infections.

Bulacan reported 9,766 active cases since January 11. From 190 new cases recorded in the province on January 4, it climbed to 2,065 cases on January 10 with at least 986.84% increase in one week.

The Bataan province recorded 276 new cases, bringing the province’s total caseload to 30,933. Meanwhile, it also recorded 1,363 active cases on January 11.

In Tuguegarao, it registered 101 new cases increasing to 505 active cases on January 11.

Meanwhile, the Cagayan Valley region posted 2,242 active infections after 381 new cases recorded on January 10.

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Wednesday placed 28 more areas in the country under stricter Alert Level 3 following the rapid spike in COVID-19 infections.

The Philippines on Wednesday registered 32,246 fresh COVID-19 infections, bringing the nationwide caseload to 3,058,634. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
