By JAMIL SANTOS,GMA News

Presidential candidate Senator Manny Pacquiao on Friday said he would abide by Davao City's ban on all campaign caravans and motorcade.

He said he would instead push through with community forums in President Rodrigo Duterte's hometown.

Pacquiao made the remark following Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte's signing of Executive Order No. 10 series of 2022 banning campaign motorcades in the city.

Sara is a vice presidential candidate, the running mate of former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

"May mga ibang paraan naman na puwede kang mangampanya sa Davao , community forum," Pacquiao said in a media briefing in Pasay City.

(There are other avenues to conduct campaigns in Davao City, like the community forum.)

"Bumababa naman tayo sa mga barangay. Importante makausap natin 'yung nasa ilalim, sa laylayan. Dahil sila ang napag-iiwanan, hindi nakokonsulta at hindi natin nalalaman 'yung pangangailangan at problema nila," Pacquiao added.

(We go down to the barangays. It is important that we talk to those underneath, those on the sidelines. Because they are those who are left behind, they are not consulted and we fail to know their needs and problems.)

“There is a need to prohibit motorcades and caravans due to the continuing increase of fuel costs, the inconvenience of the traffic jams it will create and the ongoing public want due to the economic losses from the pandemic coupled with the rising prices of basic commodities,” read Executive Order No. 10 Series of 2022 signed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

“Local governments should use its powers in promoting the economic condition, social welfare and material progress of the people in the community,” the order added.

The order also said it was complying with the guidelines imposed by the Commission on Elections on in-person campaign; rallies; caucuses, meetings and conventions, miting de avance under the new normal, but with the exception of political caravans and motorcades which will not be allowed in the city. —NB, GMA News
