Kurt Teves apologizes for punching security guard, quits post

By GMA News

The son of Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves Jr. who was caught on video punching a village security guard in Paranaque City has apologized for his actions.

Board Member Kurt Matthew Teves also said that he was resigning from his post.

“What happened is already done. Whatever the exchange of words were, I was wrong to lay my hands on him. For that, I offer my sincerest apologies," Kurt said in a news conference.

"Apologies to all of you, here and to the other party concerned. This incident is entirely on me. No one else,” he added.

“Having said that I must respectfully resign from my office as a public official while I face this problem and give time to reflect on my own personal as well,” Kurt said.

His father, the congressman, was behind him as he read the prepared statement.

Kurt asked for the public’s understanding, saying that he would “strive harder and come back a better person and leader.”

Axl Teves, brother of Kurt, said his brother wanted to personally talk to village watchman Jomar Pajares to apologize.

Pajares, however, said that he feared for his safety and that of his family after the incident.

Meanwhile, the BF Federation of Homeowners Associations Inc. (BFFHAI) welcomed the intention to apologize.

“Magandang move sa kanila kung ipapakita nilang yung ganoon. Syempre sa ngayon kasi masyado pa yung ating guwardiya, traumatized sya. So siguro some other time, hindi pa ngayon,” Atty. Delfin Supapo Jr., BFFHAI chairman of the legal committee, said.
