Classes canceled in 3 Juban, Sorsogon schools due to ashfall from Bulusan Volcano —NDRRMC

Classes in three schools in Juban, Sorsogon were canceled due to the ashfall from Bulusan Volcano, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday.

In an update, the NDRRMC said classes have been suspended in Puting Sapa Elementary School, Sangkayon Elementary School, and Añog Elementary School.

From Alert Level 0, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised Alert Level 1 over Bulusan Volcano after a phreatic eruption

on Sunday morning that lasted for 17 minutes.

The municipalities of Juban, Casiguran, and Irosin were affected by ashfall, according to the PHIVOLCS.

PHIVOLCS Director and Science Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr. warned households near rivers of possible lahar in case of heavy rains.

Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions are the possible hazards that may occur based on the volcano’s activity, PHIVOLCS said.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the PHIVOLCS said a total of 29 volcanic earthquakes have been monitored in Bulusan Volcano in the past 24 hours. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
